ASE’s founder and President, Professor Leonard Wantchekon participated prominently in the struggle to return the Republic of Benin to democratic rule 39 years ago.
As a young man, he was a leader in the brave resistance mounted by students of the National University of Benin, against the oppressive regime of Mathieu Kérékou’s Party of the Popular Revolution of Benin (PRPB).
