ASE DISCUSSES THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ITS AFRICAN CENTRE FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES (ACSS) WITH THE GOVERNMENT OF NIGER STATE

The African School of Economics (ASE) in Nigeria has reached an agreement with the government of Niger State, represented by the Executive Governor, Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago, to establish ASE’s African Centre for Strategic Studies (ACSS) in the state, with the support of the state government.

Created in part to respond to the growing despondency among traditional political actors, who lack clear and context-relevant policy pathways to make any headway in Africa on issues of security, the African Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS) will produce academically rigorous and evidence-based analysis on conflict and geopolitics on the African continent, to support regional and international policymakers in strengthening governance in insecure regions and to provide world class training in international strategy to the next generation of African analysts.

The choice of Niger State for situating ACSS was based on both the state’s critical experiences around contemporary national security matters, and on the state government’s strong indication of commitment to building resilient mechanisms for peace and security in the state and beyond.

ACSS is to commence operations in Niger state in 2024.
